‘Historical’ tag sale planned

COLRAIN — The Colrain Historical Society is asking friends and neighbors to root through attics, closets and drawers for choice items to contribute to the tag sale the society will hold at the G. William Pitt House over the Columbus Day weekend, Oct. 11 and 12, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Proceeds from the sale will support the preservation of artifacts from the town’s history and the buildings exhibiting them.

Pitt, who died in 1976, was curator of the Copley Society in Boston, a theater patron, actor and musician who brought many famous people to his summer home in Colrain. He founded the Colrain Historical Society in 1957, and left the town his circa-1880s home filled with art and theatrical artifacts.

Tag sale organizers are looking for “gently used” vintage and antique furniture, tableware, tools, clothing, jewelry, collectibles and art. Please, no electronics or plastic toys. Contributions will be accepted at the home of Joan McQuade, 7 Main Road. Call 413-624-8818 after Sept. 12. Pickup can be arranged.

Receipts for donations to this 501-3c exempt nonprofit will be available upon request.

Wind bylaw OK’d

SHELBURNE — The town’s new small-scale wind energy system bylaw has been approved by the state Attorney General’s Office, according to Town Clerk Joseph Judd.

Judd said the state has approved by the bylaw, which allows on-premises wind turbines producing up to 30 kilowatts of electricity to be built in town, by special permit.

Also state-approved was the addition of “energy generation uses” added into the zoning table of regulations.

A copy of the approved law and the AG’s decision are available in the Town Clerk’s Office, the Arms and Shelburne libraries, the transfer station and the senior center. A public comment period, for any claim opposing the new bylaw, can only be made within 90 days of Sept. 5.
