Eaglebrook dorm fire under investigation
DEERFIELD — A dorm room fire at the Eaglebrook School Saturday night remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office, Deerfield police and fire officials say.
At 9 p.m. Saturday, the Deerfield Fire Department and Deerfield Police responded to the private boys boarding middle school on Pine Nook Road, where a small fire broke out in a dormitory.
By the time firefighters arrived, dorm staff had already evacuated all students and double checked the building, police said. No one was injured.
Deerfield firefighters extinguished the fire within minutes. The sprinkler system contained the fire to one room.
Damage was not extensive and was contained to the one room, Deerfield Police Chief John Paciorek Jr. said. Only a bed and chair were affected. Deerfield Fire Chief Chet Yazwinski said the cause is still under investigation, but it appears to be an unintentional fire ignited by a lighter.
“It was a situation that was quickly resolved,” Yazwinkski said.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office could not be reached for comment Monday. South Deerfield and Greenfield fire departments also responded.
