Friends plan search effort for Rebecca Streeter Sunday
GREENFIELD — Friends of a 35-year-old East Greenfield woman missing for more than two weeks will lead a ground search for her near her home Sunday.
Those who would like to help have been asked to meet at 10 a.m. at Abercrombie Field, behind the Greenfield Center School on Montague City Road.
Lisa Lanno, a psychic medium from South Hadley, is coordinating the effort, after Rebecca Streeter’s friends asked for her help.
Lanno said she has not led a search before, but felt compelled to help find Streeter when she was asked. Anyone with experience performing a grid-style search or other tracking skills has been encouraged to come help.
Lanno asked that people form pairs or groups and do not search alone. She recommends that people bring two-way radios to communicate, carry brightly colored tape or ribbon to mark searched areas and flag possible evidence, as well as cameras to photograph finds.
Streeter was last seen Feb. 25. She left her keys, wallet and car at her Camp Avenue home near the Deerfield River. Police dogs lost her scent not far from her house.
Police Chief Robert Haigh Jr. said Friday that police have been following leads as they come in, but don’t have much to go on at this point. He said the department won’t be involved in Sunday’s search, but plans to look for signs of Streeter on the Deerfield and Connecticut rivers with firefighters and others once they can get boats into the water.
Lanno said a person will be stationed at Abercrombie Field throughout the search to coordinate efforts.
