Firearm legislation

Friday, December 22, 2017

The anti’s and our so-called politicians are at it yet again.

It seems everyday someone is calling for more restrictions on legal firearm owners’ rights in this state. I keep hearing how we have very strict laws in Massachusetts, but yet they want more. Every so often, a self-proclaimed historian or some other so-called expert will tell us that these new bills won’t affect hunting or sport shooting. Let me tell you a secret — the Second Amendment has nothing to do with either of those.

It seems these people in power are just pushing their own agenda and claiming more restrictions will keep people safer. Either they are completely ignorant or just blatantly outright lying. I presume the latter. They no longer care about doing something that will actually make a difference when it comes to criminals. They are going after legal firearm owners who have to go through federal background checks when a purchase is made, as it is now. To say they want more is just grandstanding to give them the opportunity to claim they are making everyone safer by enacting more laws that only affect the law-abiding firearm owners.

If they are serious about keeping people safer, why aren’t they going after the real criminals? A quick look at the Centers for Disease Control gave me some numbers in the U.S. There were 3,361 firearm homicides in 2014 and 10,265 deaths from drunk driving in 2015. I don’t recall hearing any calls for more automobile restrictions or banning certain models of cars. The politicians and others will claim the stricter firearm laws are “for the children.” How can that be when they don’t have any comment on the 664,435 abortions in 2013?

To the politicians who are supposed to be serving us, start going after the criminals and stop infringing on the constitutional rights of the law abiding.
