Voices of Audubon
Here are this week’s bird sightings from the Western Voice of Audubon.
Southerly winds and sunny days brought an arrival of resident songbirds from the south.
The most notable were ruby-throated hummingbird, great crested flycatcher, least flycatcher, blue-winged warbler, American redstart, northern waterthrush, indigo bunting and orchard oriole.
Some migrant species reported were solitary sandpiper, ruby-crowned kinglet, Nashville warbler and palm warbler.
A female blue grosbeak visited at feeder in Westfield.
A lesser yellowlegs, a greater yellowlegs and nine Wilson’s snipe were seen in Hadley.
Two blue-winged teal and four pectoral sandpipers were reported in Longmeadow.
A common tern and a surf scoter were found in Northampton.
A common tern, a red-necked grebe and a horned grebe were seen at Turners Falls.
Four greater yellowlegs and two Wilson’s snipe were found in North Hatfield and a cliff swallow was reported in Lenox.
