About 180 photographs were entered in the 2013 amateur photography contest sponsored by The Recorder and Wilson’s Department Store.

“In all the years I’ve been judging the contest, this is the strongest stuff I’ve seen,” said Paul Franz, a staff photographer for The Recorder and one of the contest’s five judges.

Held in conjunction with this weekend’s Winter Carnival, the contest seeks photographs with a winter theme. They must be taken in Franklin County and there are two categories, color and black and white.

Pictured here are the winners. This year, judges added a honorable mention to the color photography category. This went to Dahna Virgilio of Gill for her stunning picture of a Jan. 8, 2012, sunset at Barton Cove.

All the photographs entered are on display at Studio C, which is on the third floor of Wilson’s, 258 Main St., Greenfield. They will be up through Friday of next week.

This contest is free to enter.
