HADLEY — A new hotel has broken ground as part of the Home Depot complex on Route 9.

Construction recently began on the Homewood Suites, a 96-room hotel approved by the Planning Board in January, next to the Aldi supermarket.

The plans for the Homewood Suites by Hilton call for a three-story, 81,400-square-foot structure that will include a fitness center and a pool. Construction is to take about 18 months.

Building Commissioner Timothy Neyhart said the project may mark the final development in the complex, which incorporates a strip mall that includes Starbucks, GNC, Aspen Dental and Hot Table, the free standing Taco Bell and Chipotle restaurants and Advance Auto Parts and Firestone Complete Auto Care businesses.

The hotel is one of several projects that are rising along the Route 9 corridor. They include a Pride gas station, which will feature a store and a Subway sandwich shop, near the Coolidge Bridge.

Another new building, going up at the Hampton Inn Village Shops, 41 Russell St., is to house Manny’s TV & Appliances. In addition, a developer is planning to convert the long-vacant Stan’s Vegetable Stand into a 4,800-square-foot dental office.
