Nomination papers for Greenfield board positions available now
GREENFIELD — The town has already begun preparation for its spring elections.
Nomination papers are available in the town clerk’s office and will be due Feb. 25.
Town Clerk Maureen Winseck said the town will hold a preliminary election on April 15, if there are more than two candidates for any one seat, and then will hold the general town election on June 10.
Four town councilors are up for re-election: Precinct 4 Councilor Steven Ronhave, Precinct 5 Councilor David Singer, Precinct 6 Councilor and Council Vice President Hillary Hoffman, and At-large Councilor and Council President Mark Wisnewski.
The final year of former Town Councilor Keith Zaltzberg’s three-year term will also be on the ballot. Zaltzberg recently resigned because he moved out of Precinct 2.
Wisnewski said he plans to appoint someone to Zaltzberg’s seat within the next few weeks. That person will serve until the June election, when voters will choose who will fill the seat until June 30, 2015.
Winseck said School Committee members Daryl Essensa and Maryelen Calderwood are also up for re-election.
Candidates for precinct councilor must collect the signatures of at least 50 registered voters who live in their precinct, while to run for an at-large position or position on the School Committee requires 100 signatures, with not more than 25 from any one precinct.
