Local deer harvest
It was better late than never for Tim Ollari.
The Millers Falls resident brought in a 172-pound, 7-point buck to Grrr Gear in Orange on Friday as Week 2 of the Massachusetts shotgun deer hunting season winds down.
It was one of eight deer reported on Friday.
It was also a good two-day stretch for Belchertown’s Charles Walker who checked in a buck each day to Sunderland Hatchery, including a 143-pound, 13-pointer on Friday, the most points checked on any deer over the past two weeks. Sunderland had four checks on Friday and all were large deer. Aside from Walker, Hadley’s Tim Baj brought in a 155-pound, eight-pointer, Leverett’s Robert MacDonald checked a 144-pound, nine-pointer, and Marshall Miller from Greenfield brought in perhaps the heaviest doe of the shotgun season with a 153-pounder.
As for Thursday’s harvest, Ethan Wickline and Kyle Johnson spent much of the fall season tackling opposing football players on their Franklin County Technical School football teams, but on Thursday, the two boys were busy taking down deer.
The two players each checked in deer at Bitzer Hatchery in Montague. Wickline, from Turners Falls, bagged a 131-pound, eight-pointer, while Johnson, from Ashfield, shot an 89-pound doe.
Here’s the list from both days:
Thursday: Ethan Wickline, Turners Falls, 131, 8; Kyle Johnson, Ashfield, 89, doe; Ezra Ward, Montague, 71, 2.
