Greenfield meteorologist Tom Bevacqua posting online weather alerts on school site

GREENFIELD — Will there be a lot of snow this weekend? Meteorologist and Greenfield High School teacher Thomas Bevacqua thinks so.

“If I were a betting man, I would bet on at least a plowable event. So, gas up the snow blower,” he wrote in a Wednesday morning alert on the Greenfield School Department’s website.

“Everything is falling into place for a major nor’easter for the region this weekend,” read his Friday morning post.

The Greenfield resident and teacher’s union president has sent out weather email alerts to staff for the past six years, but this winter he’s been given real estate on the school department’s home page. To access the weather alerts, go to http://gpsk12.org and click the “Weather” link.

Bevacqua — the longtime Springfield television meteorologist who writes a weekly column for The Recorder — plans to post daily and probably more on the weekends and during bad weather. His posts include snowfall and temperature predictions as well as thoughts and tips for the morning commute.

His alerts come at a time when people are no longer seeking weather information solely on television channels or traditional weather websites.
