Bulletin Board: Quality is the theme for Day 5 harvest
It wasn’t a huge harvest on Day 5 of the 2013 Massachusetts shotgun deer hunting season, but local hunters brought home some nice trophies.
Six of the 18 deer harvested on Friday had racks of eight points or more including Montague resident William Cowan’s 10-point, 180-pound buck that he checked into the Bitzer Hatchery in Montague for the day’s biggest prize.
Six more deer that were reported late on Thursday were also listed with the daily report. Jeff Lapinski from Montague had a good couple of days for himself, tagging a 143-pound, six-point buck on Thursday at Bitzer, and then bringing in a 107-pound doe on Friday. Bitzer finished with five checks on Friday.
Sunderland led the way with six checks on Friday, including Robert Bell from Easthampton, who brought in a 178-pound, 10-pointer. John Kosloski also scored a nice trophy with a 177-pound, eight-point buck.
Grrr Gear in Orange had five checks on the day with Wendell’s Donald Richardson leading the way with his 162-pound, nine-pointer. And Gould’s Sugarhouse in Shelburne, which had checked the most deer each of the first four days of the season, had its slowest day of the year with just three checks. Jeremy Jackman from South Deerfield brought in the monster buck to Gould’s with a 164-pound, nine-pointer.
