Montague tax hearing set for Dec. 18
MONTAGUE — Several town boards will hold hearings this month to consider shifting the tax burden among different types of property owners.
The Montague Board of Selectmen, the prudential committees of the Montague Center Fire District, Montague Lighting District and Turners Falls Fire District and the Board of Assessors will hold public hearings Dec. 18.
They will consider whether to make a tax burden shift from the open space class to the residential class, whether to grant a residential exemption of up to 10 percent of the average value of all owner-occupied properties and whether to grant a commercial exemption of up to 10 percent to certain small commercial properties. All meetings to be held at the Montague Town Hall, 1 Avenue A, Turners Falls, consecutively.
The Turners Falls Fire District meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Assessors Office, followed by the Montague Center Fire District meeting at 6 p.m. and Montague Lighting District meeting at 6:30 p.m.
The Town of Montague meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Board of Selectmen’s upstairs conference room.
