Still no ID on river death
GREENFIELD — There is still no positive word on the identity of the man found dead in the Fall River Monday, or how he came to be there.
The Northwestern District Attorney’s office has charge of the case, as with all unattended deaths, but has not commented on the circumstances of the man’s death.
Thursday, an office spokeswoman said the DA is awaiting positive confirmation of identity from the state medical examiner.
Construction workers repairing the Route 2 bridge over Fall River in the Factory Hollow section of the Gill-Greenfield town line noticed the body facedown in shallow water Monday afternoon.
State Police detectives attached to the DA’s office are in charge of the investigation.
Detective Lt. Daniel McCarthy of the Greenfield Police Department has said the death did not appear suspicious to him.
