Lotto pays off for Turners woman
TURNERS FALLS — Rebecca DeBeauport of Turners Falls is the state lottery’s latest newly minted nearly-millionaire.
The Massachusetts State Lottery Commission announced DeBeauport as their latest million-dollar winner Nov. 29.
DeBeauport opted to take her winnings in a one-time, lump sum payment of $650,000 after taxes, according to the commission, and plans to buy a home in Shelburne Falls with her winnings.
DeBeauport could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
A pianist of English origin, DeBeauport opened the “Queen of Cups” tea shop in Bernardston in 2010, later relocating to the shops to the Arts Block on Main Street in Greenfield, where the business closed in recent months and was replaced by the Smithsonian chowder house. DeBeauport went by the last name of Byram at the time.
DeBeauport purchased her winning “50X The Cash” ticket at the Food City grocery store located at 250 Avenue A in Turners Falls. The store will receive a $10,000 commission on the sale.
“I’m pretty excited for the customer,” said store manager Jon Steiner. “I’m glad it was us. We haven’t had a big, big winner here as long as I’ve been here.”
