2 crashes blamed on intersection

NORTHFIELD — The intersection of Route 10 and Gill Center Road saw two accidents this weekend as drivers failed to see or obey the stop sign.

Northfield Fire Chief Floyd “Skip” Dunnell said both accidents were caused by drivers on Gill Center Road from the direction of Gill failing to stop for the Route 10 stop sign.

Both drivers in Saturday’s accident, around 7:40 p.m., were transported by ambulance Dunnell said. No other information was available

No one was hurt in the second accident, reported at 5:18 p.m. Sunday. Police closed the road briefly.

Dunnell said it is common for drivers to run the stop sign at that intersection.

“They actually put a huge stop sign in,” Dunnell said, but there’s enough of a rise in the road before the intersection that drivers from the south don’t see Route 10 and the stop sign in time.
