WiredWest holds Thursday meeting for ‘cable towns’

SHELBURNE FALLS — WiredWest is holding a meeting Thursday to discuss broadband or cable-expansion strategies for member towns that are partially served by Comcast Cable Co. for high-speed Internet access.

The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the upstairs meeting room of the Buckland Town Hall, on State Street.

The purpose is to discuss efforts being made to bring broadband access to unserved residents, what is being planned and where there have been successes or stumbling blocks. The meeting is also to discuss strategies for working together, communication with legislators and continued information-sharing.

The towns with partial cable service — Buckland, Conway, Shelburne, Northfield, Huntington, Cheshire and Washington — may not be eligible for state or federal funds to build a high-speed fiber-optic network, because those funds will probably go to towns with no high-speed Internet infrastructure at all.
