Dakin Humane Society gets donation challenge

LEVERETT — An anonymous donor has challenged the Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society to raise $50,000 by Friday and promised to match that amount with a donation of her own if the goal is met.

According to Leslie Harris, the society’s executive director, this is the first time since 2006 that one of the society’s supporters has made such an offer. She said the society does not receive any government funding, and instead counts on the generosity of donors. She said the donor is a regular supporter.

“We really rely on individual contributions in order to do anything that we do,” Harris said. “So, this is incredibly meaningful to us in this time of year when people are feeling generous, and we ask that they remember the animals, too.”

Anyone who wishes to help the Humane Society to match the challenge grant is encouraged to donate securely online at dpvhs.org/support or by check to Dakin Humane Society, P.O. Box 6307, Springfield, MA 01101.
