Letter: Community safety

Day to day it’s easy to forget the important work our fire and rescue departments play in keeping our families, neighbors and community safe.

Firefighters, police and rescue risk their own safety to ensure the safety of the community. Today, in the wee hours of the morning, a fire raged in our neighborhood. Fire and emergency personnel worked swiftly, without sirens, to extinguish the blaze as my husband and I looked on a short distance away, our kids sleeping soundly through the ordeal. I am so grateful to live where we have a dedicated, coordinated and skilled fire department and want to thank all of the members of the rescue team for their efforts. You prevented the spread of a fire that could have consumed more than one house.

If you do this work, please accept my gratitude and thanks for your dedication and willingness to risk your safety for the well being and safety of our community.
