Ackerman, Hawks pound Dean Tech
Matt Ackerman scored three first-half touchdowns to power Frontier Regional School to a 48-6 rout of Dean Technical High School in independent football action Friday night in South Deerfield.
Ackerman opened the scoring with a 14-yard touchdown run, then Tim Hoar scampered 21 yards to paydirt to make it 12-0. Ackerman added his second score of the evening, a 5-yard run, and connected with Justin Blake on the two-point pass to make it 20-0 at the end of a quarter. It was easily the highest offensive output in a single quarter this season for the Red Hawks, who have scored more than 20 points in a game only one other time this season.
“We had a good week of practice, we threw a few wrinkles in and everything came together (tonight),” Frontier coach Don Gordon said.
Frontier (2-6) continued to put up numbers in the second quarter. Ackerman scored his third touchdown of the game on a 39-yard run to make it 26-0, and then intercepted a pass later in the second quarter to set up the Red Hawks’ third score of the game, this one coming on a Blake 2-yard run. Jack Hebert rushed in the conversion and Frontier had a 34-0 lead at the break.
Jan Diaz scored on a 51-yard pass from Dan Scott-Wilson for the lone Dean Tech touchdown of the game in the third quarter, but Frontier closed out the scoring with one touchdown in each of the final two quarters. Hoar ran in his second of the game from 11 yards out in the third quarter, and Hebert scored his first of the game on a 3-yard run in the fourth.
