Letter: Find a way to settle
What is the future of health care?
As I write my second letter to you all, it’s truly difficult to find words to understand why you can’t settle. Baystate and Franklin County Public Hospital merged in the 1980s. There was a nursing union at Franklin then.
It is my belief that you both dedicated yourself to provide quality service to this fine community. A strike is not a way of showing dedicated service.
A strike of two or three days will truly hurt the Baystate Franklin community. I know we have a truly dedicated skillful staff here and we need to settle this battle now. It’s really turned into a political battle.
So please, Baystate administration and the nurses union, please remember that many of us need your service. We continue to pray for a fair settlement.
I worked 431∕2 years as a nurse and I know it’s a dedicated profession. It truly is a lot of hard work, but there are a lot of rewards along with it.
So please think long and hard before you strike. Because I know that if they can’t provide all the services during those days, we might have to travel to Northampton or Springfield. Sometimes time is a factor.
Again, I know you both want what’s best for the community.
God bless you both. You make the right decision to settle.
