Letter: In caring hands
I am writing this letter as a community member, a physician in Greenfield and president of the Medical Staff at Baystate Franklin Medical Center (BFMC).
With the recent announcement that the nurses in the MNA have voted to support a second strike at BFMC, I am sure that there is a fair amount of emotion in the community. Reflecting on the strike that occurred last October, words that come to mind are teamwork, dedication, community, compassion and commitment.
On the day of the strike last year, the hospital remained open and our patients received wonderful and heartfelt care. We had several of our own nurses working the floors as well as many from Baystate in Springfield.
In addition, our non-nursing staff proudly showed up at work to care for the patients making sure that you and your loved ones received the excellent care that they expect.
I have the utmost confidence in the leadership that once again we will get through a second strike and that the patients will be cared for with the highest of standards. I hope that my words may help all of you feel a similar sense of trust that you and your loved ones will be in safe and caring hands.
