Airport Industrial Park land sold
MONTAGUE — The town has sold one of the last open plots in the Airport Industrial Park to an existing park resident looking to expand.
The Board of Selectmen approved the sale Monday of 7.87 acres to River Bluff Realty for $132,000.
Town Planner Walter Ramsey said the sale will allow Atlantic Golf and Turf to expand with a new warehouse.
Located at 9 Industrial Blvd., Atlantic Golf and Turf sells seeds, fertilizers, herbicides and other sports field, golf course and lawn products.
The sale leaves 2.3 acres in town hands, with an additional nine acres undeveloped but partly controlled by existing businesses. Mountain Research LLC has the right of first refusal for seven acres and the Ja’Duke Center for the Performing Arts has that option for the remaining two acres.
“Recognizing the shortage of available industrial space, the Planning Department is continuing to plan for light industrial space off Sandy Lane,” Ramsey wrote.
The planned Turnpike Road Industrial Park, to occupy a lot behind Judd Wire, is still in the planning stages.
Ramsey wrote the preliminary subdivision design would create about 45 acres of saleable land out of 163 acres owned by the town, while providing designated space for both conservation and solar development.
Transfer station facilities will also be relocated on the site, Ramsey wrote, and the town will start seeking support for infrastructure construction from state and federal sources as early as this winter.
Town Administrator Frank Abbondanzio said sale of real estate goes into a special fund with specific uses and applying the money to the new industrial park project on Turnpike Road makes the most sense.
Ramsey said the sale was previously authorized by the Montague Economic Development and Industrial Corp., a town proxy in real estate matters.
