Sheriff to host Jail Break 5K walk-run fundraiser Sunday
7 p.m. at Sunderland Elementary
GREENFIELD — The Franlin County jail and sheriff are sponsoring a fundraiser race this weekend.
The Sunday Jail Break 5K proceeds will benefit Community Action’s Family Support Programs.
This is the third year the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office has partnered with Community Action. Following the half-mile Kids’ Fun Run at 9:30 a.m., three pesky “crooks” will escape from the jail, signaling Franklin County Sheriff Christopher Donelan and Community Action Executive Director Clare Higgins to fire the “start” gun and kick off the race at 10 a.m. A “bail bond,” good for $5 off of next year’s registration fee, will be awarded to the runners who finish before the “crooks.” With a family-friendly 3.1-mile race route through Greenfield’s Bike Path, and a half-mile Kids’ Fun Run around the historic Franklin County Jail, the Jail Break 5K offers a scenic race.
Whether you’re a competitive runner hoping to “catch a crook,” or a Community Action supporter out for a leisurely Sunday stroll, Sheriff Donelan knows you won’t want to bail on this year’s Jail Break 5K.
Interested participants may visit the Jail Break 5K Facebook page (facebook.com/franklincountyjailbreak5K) to preregister at the reduced $20 Early Jailbird rate or register the morning of the event for $25.
