BrewFest joins Blues and BBQ this weekend

GREENFIELD — One of the main attractions of the Riverside Blues & BBQ Festival on Saturday and Sunday on Beacon Field will be the BrewFest Beer Samplin’ Saloon.

The sampling will cost $20 a day per person age 21 or older (must have valid identification) and that will include admission to the entire festival.

The BrewFest Beer Samplin’ Saloon is the Fall Harvest Festival that Dillon’s Chevrolet and Ryan & Casey Liquors held in the back parking lot of Ryan & Casey for the past seven years.

Proceeds from the harvest festival used to go to the town’s Recreation Department, so organizers said combining the event with the Riverside Blues & BBQ Festival made sense.

“It’s a chance to sample seasonal Octoberfests, pumpkin brews and harvest ales,” said Kristie Faufaw, manager of Ryan & Casey.

Faufaw said it’s a great chance for samplers to figure out which styles of beer they like. She said if someone already has a favorite style, they will have a chance to compare different brewers’ versions of the same type of beer, some local, some imported, and many high-end and highly rated brews.

“People will find out the difference between Dogfish Head (craft brewed ales) 60-minute and 90-minute India Pale Ales,” for example, said Faufaw, referring to nationally known beers brewed in Delaware by Greenfield native Sam Calagione.

Faufaw said there will be a craft brew from Scotland, an authentic Octoberfest from Germany, American craft brews from the People’s Pint and Lefty’s, and beers from as far away as Hawaii, as well as many more.

Brew sampling will be from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday on Beacon Field.

Tickets are $20 per day, but participants can save $5 if they purchase them by 11 p.m. on Friday at Ryan & Casey.

Volunteers from the Valley Fermenters Club will be helping pour samples, answer questions and talk beer each day.
