Letter: Clarifying my letter
I raised the issue of “sidewalk speeders” not to humiliate or oppress anyone but because I witnessed a frightening incident. Someone with a zippy new apparatus was traveling too fast and ended up sprawled on the sidewalk. While helping this person, I was surprised to be snapped at and told that “speed has nothing to do with it.” That strikes me as irrational. The accident, which upset several children who witnessed it, reminded me of a couple of near-misses I’ve seen involving motorized vehicles on sidewalks. As a mom, I feel I have the right to speak up if I think something poses a serious risk to my child (or others). I hope that clears up any confusion.
