‘Leave the gun, take the cannoli’
Conway celebration benefit dinner features movie mafia theme
CONWAY — On Sept. 28, the 250th Anniversary Celebration Committee will make you an offer you can’t refuse.
The committee is hosting an Italian family-style dinner on the Burkeville Covered Bridge at 4:30 p.m. to raise money for the town celebration in 2017.
The 1871 bridge will be turned into a 1940s diner. The bridge will be decked out in 1940s decorations. Cocktails will be served at 4:30 p.m.
Guests will be assigned tables, at which each person will represent a position in one of the six Italian movie mob families — Bonanno, Lucchese, Gambino, Genovese, Corleone and Colombo.
Each person could be a moll, a hit man or a mob boss.
Mobster-themed entertainment will be provided by Mike Haley of Conway, who will play Frankie “The Wind” Flatulato.
The dinner will feature a contest. Envelopes containing directions and movie lines will be dispersed to each table and each family will have to compete for best screen test.
Committee member Elizabeth Braccia said the group is keeping the specific details secret until the night of the dinner.
The fundraiser is the second this year for the anniversary committee. On July 4, the committee held the first Chesbro Challenge, a wacky version of a baseball game.
The dinner is bring your own beer or alcohol. Tickets are $35. There are 106 seats. Tickets are still available at Baker’s Country Store in Conway.
