Crash near Big Y sends 1 to hospital

GREENFIELD — A two-car accident Sunday afternoon on Route 2 sent one driver to the hospital after firefighters extricated him from his damaged vehicle.

Greenfield Fire Capt. Andrew Garvin said no one else was injured in the accident, reported at 1:23 p.m. in front of the Big Y plaza, and while firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to extricate the man from his vehicle he did not appear to be seriously hurt.

Timothy Strahan, 67, of Prospect Avenue, was taken to Baystate Franklin Medical Center, where he was treated and released Sunday.

Greenfield Police Sgt. Mark Williams said it appeared Strahan pulled out in front of another vehicle while leaving the Big Y parking lot and was struck.
