Torsten Nelson edged Ryan Lenois by one stroke in the No. 2 match and took three points, while Alex Smiarowski carded a 48 and took three points at No. 5 as Frontier Regional School edged Turners Falls High School, 14-10, during a Bi-County League North tri-match at Thomas Memorial Golf & Country Club in Turners Falls on Thursday.

Both teams knocked off Franklin County Technical School, as Frontier completed its sweep with a 191∕2-41∕2 win, and Turners Falls earned a split on the day with a 17-7 verdict.

The win lifted Frontier (3-1-0) into second place in the North, while Turners Falls (3-1-0 overall, 2-1-0 North) moved into a third-place tie. Franklin Tech dropped to 0-3 on the year.

The trio golfing at No. 1 put together a solid fight but it was Turners Falls’ Brett Sirum that won the battle with a 37 to finish as the match medalist. Frontier’s Nathan Patterson shot a 39, and Tech’s Cody Booska shot a 40.

The second threesome saw Nelson edge Lenois by a stroke with a score of 40 to 41, while Tech’s Trevor Blake finished well back with a 49. Turners Falls’ Alex Fitzpatrick had a strong performance at No. 3 where he shot a 38 to lead that group. Dan Ruddock carded a 41, and Austin Felix shot a 47. Frontier’s Cam Blair shot a 44 at No. 4, while Tech’s R.J. Huberty tallied a 45 at No. 4.

Pioneer 181∕2, Mohawk 51∕2 — Lee Doiron fired a two-over par 38 on Thursday to sweep four points at No. 2 and help Pioneer Valley Regional School to a 181∕-51∕2 win over Mohawk Trail Regional High School in a Bi-County North golf match at Edge Hill Golf Course in Ashfield.

Nick Stennes carded a 43 at No. 3 and won three points for Pioneer (4-0), while Brad Hastings shot a 49 at No. 4 and captured three points. Blake Kimball notched a 47 at No. 5 and won 31∕2 points, and Jacob Willis tallied a 48 at No. 6 and swept four points.

Rowan Jones had a nice day for the host Warriors (1-3) with a 41 at No. 1 and winning three points. Kai Herzig shot a 49 and won one point.

Hopkins 191∕2, Mahar 41∕2 — Joe Yusko fired a 42 on Thursday and won 31∕2 points at No. 2 as Hopkins Academy drubbed Mahar Regional School,
191∕2-41∕2, Thursday in a Bi-County South golf match at Hickory Ridge Country Club in Amherst.

Caleb Farnham and D.J. Gardiner both shot a 45 and won four points for Hopkins (4-0), and Austin Brighenti carded a 46 and won 31∕2.

Zach Adams had an impressive day for the Senators with a 37 to finish as the match medalist and take 31∕2 points. Nick Slattery shot a 51, and Joe Geyster carded a 53.

Girls’ volleyball

Frontier 3, Chicopee Comp 0 — Sarah Woodward finished with 15 kills as Frontier Regional School knocked off Chicopee Comprehensive High School, 25-20, 25-12, 25-21, in an independent girls’ volleyball match Thursday night at Goodnow Gymnasium in South Deerfield.

Chicopee Comp came into the game off a win over perennial powerhouse Longmeadow High School. Frontier coach Sean MacDonald said he was pleased with the way his team responded after a sloppy win over Westfield High School on Tuesday.

“We made a lot of mistakes against Westfield,” he began. “We cleaned a lot of those mistakes up today and looked like a completely different team. I was very happy with the way we responded because I was not happy with the way we played the other day.”

Emily Woodward recorded 41 assists for the Red Hawks (4-0), while Sarah Conlisk and Cassidy Ciesluk each had nine kills. Remi Quesnelle chipped in six kills and nine digs for Frontier.

Field hockey

Holyoke 8, FC Tech 0 — Megan Goshea scored three times on Thursday as Holyoke High School defeated Franklin Tech, 8-0, in a West Division field hockey game at the Roberts Complex in Holyoke.

Emily Roberge finished with two goals for the Purple Knights (3-1-0), while Brigit Higgins, Jill D’Ordine and Allison Kelly each added one goal. Kat Collier and Mary Ann McCarthy combined on the shutout with six saves.

Emily Sullivan finished with 22 saves for the Eagles.
