Letter: Staying informed

After many years of reading the reports of accidents and decay at Vermont Yankee nuclear plant, I am pleased that Entergy has announced the closing of the plant. However, we have to remain vigilant and make sure that the plant is decommissioned quickly and safely. The longer the buildings and the waste sit in Vernon, the greater the chance of an accident.

I’d like to thank The Recorder for its coverage of the dangers at the plant and the machinations of the owners to keep it open. I hope that the coverage continues and that we don’t become complacent because of the announcement of the closing. Fourteen months is a long time and many things can happen and many promises can be broken.
