Letter: Shut them down
I recently became aware of the extreme mistreatment of sows and piglets by a supplier of pork for Wal-Mart. I viewed a video of this mistreatment. It showed the cruel, inhumane treatment of these animals. I am disgusted and sickened by this practice and would like to see an end to such horrific treatment.
It has been shown by animal behaviorists that pigs are very intelligent and sensitive animals. They really suffer the anxiety and pain that their confinement in gestation crates brings.
It is unconscionable that such a large corporation as Wal-Mart would deal with such an irresponsible company. It is also beyond comprehension that the government of the United States allows such barbaric practices to still exist in this country and hasn’t shut down such practitioners.
