Letter: Calling GHS Class of 1944
To all of my fellow survivors of the Class of 1944, it would be appropriate for us to celebrate the 70th anniversary of our graduation from Greenfield High School next year on or about June 20, 2014.
As you may recall, we graduated only 14 days after the invasion of France by military troops of the United States, Great Britain, Canada, and France. No one could predict when World War II would end. At the time of graduation, several of our classmates were already in the military. If my memory is correct, our class valedictorian, Moxie Malloy, was the only member of our class that was killed in World War II.
For the past 30 years, my wife Wanda and I have lived in Morristown, Tenn. We both retired as engineers in the early 1990s.
Even though I live in Tennessee, I would like for those survivors of the Class of 1944 to meet in Greenfield next year to celebrate our 70th anniversary of graduating Greenfield High School. I am willing to assist in the planning for this event.
Although Wanda and I attended the 50th anniversary of our graduation, we could not make the 60th anniversary.
