Police: Local man faces kidnapping, other charges

GREENFIELD — A local man faces kidnapping and other charges after allegedly violating a restraining order and preventing his ex-girlfriend from leaving her apartment, according to police.

Sgt. David Rice said police received a report that a man might be holding his ex-girlfriend against her will in her High Street apartment Friday.

Rice said officers determined he was holding her against her will and had assaulted her, although she was not seriously injured.

After entering the apartment at 8:20 p.m., police arrested David J. Kalinowski, 36, of 43 High St., on an existing warrant and charging him with intimidating a witness, domestic assault and battery, kidnapping and violation of an abuse prevention order.

Rice said Kalinowski was not charged with breaking and entering because he had keys to the apartment, which both had rented.

The intimidation charge stems from an offer to pay the woman not to contact the police, Rice said.
