Ballot question faces Buckland voters Tuesday
BUCKLAND — There are open seats available on the Recreation Committee, Finance Committee and for tree warden on the Tuesday annual town election.
With three open seats on the Recreation Committee, voters will also be asked, in a ballot question, if they are in favor of having Recreation Committee members be appointed to their positions, rather than be elected. If this ballot question is approved, the ballot issue will supercede any election results for write-in on the recreation board.
The tree warden’s three-year term has no candidates. Town Clerk Janice Purington said she doesn’t know whether incumbent Warden David Lowell is interested in another term of office.
Finance Committee members Karen Blom and Paula Consolo did not get their nomination papers in by the March 13 deadline for the earlier town election, but both are willing to serve another term if their names are written in on the ballots. A third Finance Committee seat for a two-year term has no takers.
Martha Thurber, who was appointed to the Mohawk Trail Regional School Committee, is running for her first three-year term on the school board.
The following incumbents are seeking re-election. All are for three-year terms unless otherwise noted:
Moderator Phoebe Walker (one-year term); Selectman Kevin P. Fox, Assessor Marion E. Scott, Constable A. Henry Phillips, Board of Health member James T. Bauerlein, Buckland Library Trustee George L. Dole.
