Letter: Saved by the necktie
A story about Larry and the necktie: Yes, it’s the thing men wear around their necks when they dress up. Decades ago, my teenage son was 6 feet, 2 inches tall. He was not a string bean, but solid. He inherited a temper from his father and grandfather.
One day, he told me that a high school male teacher got his goat. He didn’t like him worth a darn. I told my son that it is socially acceptable to tell men that you don’t like their necktie.
Larry was smiling one day after school. “What’s up?” I asked him. “I told that teacher that I hated his necktie with a passion. Boy did that feel good.”
The teacher got the message that something was amiss. My son didn’t hit the teacher and Larry graduated.
