No Town Council races this year
GREENFIELD — It looks like five town councilors will hold their seats for the next three years, unless a write-in candidate steps up before June 25 to vie for any of the spots, and wins.
Nomination papers are in and the incumbent councilors from precincts 7, 8 and 9, as well as two of the four at-large councilors, are the only ones running.
Precinct 7 Councilor Karen “Rudy” Renaud of 64 Munson St., is running unopposed. She was appointed to the seat in 2011, after Shenandoah Sluter resigned from the council. In 2012, Renaud was elected to finish out the last year of Sluter’s three-year term and is now running for another three-year term.
Precinct 8 Councilor Karen Shapiro Miller of 33 Phillips St. was recently appointed to the council to fill former Councilor Iris Vicencio-Rasku’s seat. She is running for a three-year term.
Precinct 9 Councilor Norman Hirschfeld of 41 Meadow Lane will run for re-election. He was elected three years ago and is seeking his second three-year term.
At-large Councilor Patrick Devlin of Bernardston Road is running for a second three-year term. Devlin was elected in 2010 to the seat.
At-large Councilor Mark Maloni of 34 James St., who was recently appointed to former At-large Councilor Tracey Sutphin’s seat, is running unopposed for a three-year term.
The town election will be held June 25 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Guiding Star Grange on Chapman Street.
