Letter: Burning questions

As reported in The Recorder on April 8, a brush fire in New Salem burns 10 acres of land. My question is: Who gives out a permit to burn on a Class 4 day as was written with predicted winds of 10 to 15 miles per hour with higher gusts? What person thinks they can have a safe burn on this day?

As has been stated before when will the state ever adopt the rule of whether it snows in November or December you can burn and not have to wait until Jan. 15. Every spring, it is the same story burning in April and early May.

How much did it cost to have 15 to 16 fire departments fight the New Salem fire? Town money is tight and yet the state and fire officials won’t make the change. It just doesn’t make sense, does it?
