Artists

ARTISTIC CROSSWALK: A committee of local citizens seeks an artist to create and execute a design for a prominent crosswalk in downtown Greenfield. The crosswalk, 36 feet across and 6 to 8 feet wide, spans Court Square at Main Street. It links the Arts Block, a performance center, with the Town Common and serves as the entrance to the Greenfield’s Farmers market. The crosswalk will be painted with highway grade paint, available in red, yellow, blue, white and black. For this collaborative project, a small group of helpers will assist the winning artist in painting the crosswalk. Artists should submit design images in jpg format to publicartgreenfield@gmail.com by midnight April 10. The committee will choose three finalists, who will then be asked to prepare a more detailed design for the final round of selection. The chosen design must be approved by Greenfield’s mayor and the Dept. of Public Works. Submissions will be kept anonymous until the completion of the decision process. While there are no restrictions on theme or subject, the winning design will reflect the spirit of the town in a lively, welcoming way. Open to anyone 16 or older who lives or works in Greenfield.
