Letter: Good Samaritan

Recently, I witnessed a gesture of kindness that I would like to share with The Recorder’s many readers. It happened at the corner of Main and Federal streets. I was driving down Federal and intended to turn right onto Main and was in the far right lane. All the lights were red, so no traffic was moving.

A woman with a white cane was attempting to cross Federal, going toward Greenfield Savings Bank. However, she seemed unsure of her safety. There was a car stopped in the center lane next to me. The driver, a young man, got out of his car and assisted the blind woman across the intersection.

Before he was able to return to his car, the cycle of green lights began, but no one moved until he was back in his car.

What a Good Samaritan that young man is. It is refreshing and reassuring to see such a gesture of kindness amid all the unfortunate events we learn about.
