Letter: Politics as usual
Donald Kaul seems to be the dumb one. How many time have we listened to career politicians (mostly Democrats) tell us the sky is falling — fiscal cliff, sequestration and the like — and yet the sky still hangs above us? He is dead wrong when he says that Obama begged anybody for anything, he also promised transparency and hasn’t shown a shred of it. The mess we are in today is the result of ineptitude across the board, mostly the Dems as I see it. No administration has spent more with less return than Obama and his cohorts and in record time.
If he were so concerned about the state of affairs in the U.S., he would whip out his book or royal decrees (a.k.a. executive orders) make it easier for business to survive in this country and create jobs, but no, the best he can do is pass (by royal decree) legislation we can’t afford, and then give Congress and his union friends and fellow politicians vouchers to opt out of that same legislation.
No president should be able to use executive orders except in times on national distress, like Dec. 7, 1941, and Sept. 11, 2001. Oh wait, F.D.R. (Democrat) used at least one, order No. 9066. They weren’t meant to bypass the Constitution when a would-be king can’t get his way.
Also the small government he speaks of had little to do with anything that helped the “working stiff,” that credit goes to those who braved the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune to demand their rights and fair pay, this was during a time when unions actually worked for the worker.
What we have today is just politics as usual, and yes, both parties need a trip through the wringer, we just happen to have a Democrat as would-be dictator. No change and less hope, that is, if you view things honestly and don’t just take your politics from bumper stickers.
