Creating change

Change is an inevitable part of life, whether you like it or not.

What we all want in this world is to be in the best possible position to successfully meet the challenges that change can create. Perhaps, even better, is to be the actual agent of transition or innovation.

As South Africa’s Nelson Mandela has said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

With this connection between change and education in mind, it’s clear why the Greenfield Community College Foundation is using “Creating Change Through Education” to bring attention to this year’s annual fundraising campaign.

And it’s why The Recorder once again urges the Franklin County community and beyond to think seriously about making a donation so that the campaign is able to raise $800,000 to be used in the community college’s mission of providing all kinds of educational opportunities in our part of the state.

As civil rights leader Malcolm X once said, “education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today.”

That can be seen as a way to look at Greenfield Community College. At its core, the school is focused on providing its students with the education that will allow them to reach their potential and get the most out of what’s ahead. This ranges from students, who because of grades, finances, or some other circumstances, are looking for a gateway toward a four-year college degree; people who take advantage of a two-year program that will allow them entry into a particular employment field; those who take courses or programs through GCC to keep up to date with what’s happening where they work or are looking to get ahead in their jobs; men and women who may be entering a second phase of life; people best described as lifelong learners; and the public at large who take advantage of a program or event and come away with new knowledge or understanding.

Whatever the reason behind their decision to be in school, GCC is there to help them with change — whether it’s on an individual level of personal growth or in a desire to make a difference in the world.

To continue to keep the doors wide open and affordable, the GCC Foundation provides a variety of assistance, from money that goes to scholarships to professional development to library materials and other programs and initiatives.

To make a donation or to find out more, get in touch with the foundation at 413-775-1600.

Help be an agent of change in the life of men and women who see education as a vital stepping stone in creating a better future.
