Letter: Hospital services

I have worked as a nurse at BFMC for over 30 years. On Wednesday, March 6, I was fortunate to be a part of the community forum on the future of BFMC. I was very impressed to hear the concerns of community members and then share with them the conversations about coming to possible solutions. A good part of the discussion was focused on the decrease of the availability of many services at the Franklin. I believe this decrease has caused the greatest hardship for the very young and the elderly. One advantage of having a full-service local facility would allow family and friends to be at the side of their loved one, observe their progress, and help ease their fears, all of which can promote the healing process. Another advantage of having an advocate at their side would be to provide the hospital with the patient’s medical history, their med list and other pertinent information, thus facilitating a speedy admission process and possibly avoiding a delay at discharge time. This would be a win-win situation for patients, family and the hospital. I would like to see more meetings where members the community and the Franklin alike can work together to help maintain and add to the local services for the benefit of us all.
