Frontier feeder towns to pay $6,984,771
DEERFIELD — Frontier Regional School’s four feeder towns would pay $6,984,771 for next school year under the current budget proposal.
The breakdown for the four towns is as follows:
Deerfield would pay $3,260,522. Conway would pay $1,061,388. Sunderland would provide $1,737,316 and Whately would give $925,545.
The total assessment is 6.65 percent more than the district paid this year.
Deerfield would pay 9.32 percent more than the current year. Conway would pay 16.3 percent more. Sunderland would pay 1.06 percent more. Whately has a percentage decrease of 1 percent.
The assessments combine the costs for operation, debt, and transportation. It is based on the five-year rolling enrollment. Students from Sunderland and Whately decreased over the past few years.
The School Committee approved a $9,855,695 budget for next year, which will go before the townspeople in each of the four towns in the spring for final adoption. The budget increased $466,861, or 4.97 percent, from the current school year.
The assessments have decreased from the original proposed increase of 8.53 percent after town selectmen and finance members raised concern.
To reduce the assessments, the School Committee would take $40,000 from surplus.
