Film on GMOs in Ashfield on Friday

ASHFIELD — On Friday night, there will be a free public showing of the film documentary “Genetic Roulette: The Gamble of our Lives” from 7 to 9 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church. It will be followed by a discussion with biologist Ed Stockman of Summit Farm, Plainfield, who opposes genetically modified foods, known as GMOs or “genetically modified organisms.”

Stockman has been an organic farmer for 41 years, a former educator with the Northeast Organic Farming Association, and an anti-GMO educator for the past 13 years.

The documentary claims that genetically altered foods, eaten by people and livestock, may be responsible for an increase in food allergies, autism, birth defects and other ailments.

The program is sponsored by a group of local residents who call themselves the Hilltown Non-GMO Working Group.
