Family reading program kicks off in Northfield on Saturday

NORTHFIELD — Family Adventures in Reading kicks off a six-week, two-town storytelling series Saturday at the Dickinson Memorial Library.

The series is geared toward kids age 6 and up, and their families. It will feature John Porcino, a professional storyteller who hails from Amherst. Family Adventures in Reading starts at 11 a.m., and goes until 12:30 p.m. each Saturday through April 6, alternating between the Northfield and Erving libraries.

Each session begins with a story and discussion with Porcino, an introduction to different aspects of library services, and end with healthy snacks and socialization.

The program is funded by a grant from Mass. Humanities, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. It continues March 9 in the Erving Public Library.

The sessions are free, but families must preregister by calling the Dickinson Memorial Library at 413 498-2455, or the Erving Public Library at 978-235-6519.
