Greenfield master plan workshop rescheduled
GREENFIELD — Winter Storm Nemo may have caused town officials to cancel a community workshop that would have kicked off the Greenfield Sustainable Master Plan effort, but there’s going to be another chance for residents to weigh in on where they see the town headed over the next 10 to 20 years.
Organizers will try again on March 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Four Rivers Charter School at 248 Colrain Road, and at that workshop, everyone who attends will have the opportunity to share their visions.
Some of what the town’s Sustainable Master Plan Committee is going to want to know at the meeting is what people appreciate about Greenfield, what areas need improvement, and how people view different issues, like economic development, housing needs, transportation options and protecting natural and historic resources.
“I’ve been waiting for this opportunity to talk about and plan our future for 10 years,” said Planning Board Chairwoman Roxann Wedegartner. “We’re a diverse community and we want to encourage people from across the spectrum in Greenfield to come and share their ideas about shaping the future of Greenfield.”
The Planning Board will spend the next nine months reviewing the current master plan and making changes to update it and add the “sustainable” aspect.
It is expected the town could have a new master plan before the end of the year.
“Using sustainability as the over-arching theme means that every aspect of the plan will take into account social, economic and environmental issues, and that we create strategies that meet the needs of current and future generations in Greenfield without compromising the systems on which they depend,” said Eric Twarog, the town’s director of planning and development.
A short overview of the project will be presented at the workshop, and then attendees will participate in discussions.
The workshop will be the first of three to be held over the next nine months.
Other ways for residents to share their ideas would be to comment on Facebook (Greenfield Sustainable Master Plan), attend subcommittee meetings, which are listed on the town Web site at: www.townofgreenfield.org, or visit: www.greenfieldmasterplan.com and use MindMixer there.
