Winter Carnival contest winners named

GREENFIELD — After a successful weekend of winter fun and frolic, the town’s Recreation Department announced the winners of numerous contests held throughout its Winter Carnival.

Christy Moore, recreation director, said Dave Conklin of East Otis, won the top prize for his ice fishing ice sculpture, which still stands in front of the Greenfield Garden Cinemas on Main Street.

Sue O’Sullivan of Royalston took second place with her polar bear in front of Ryan & Casey Liquors on the other side of Main Street.

Tom Kellner of Royalston received third place for his unicorn in front of Greenfield Savings Bank.

The ice sculptures will continue to line Main Street until they melt.

In the cardboard sled race, Bald Eagle by Iggy Passiglia of Greenfield took first place in the “Zaniest” category, while Space Ship by Skylar Guillaume of Greenfield took second place.

The two “Most Creative” sleds were Rainbow Rocket by Stella Turowsky-Ganci of Shelburne Falls, who took the top prize in that category, and The Love Seat by Wednesday Passiglia of Greenfield.

Thomas Twadell and Miles Chattam, both of Greenfield, took top prize in the “Zaniest” category for group effort in the cardboard sled contest with their Future Boys-Cardboard DeLorean.

The first place in the “Most Creative” category for group effort went to Julian and Forrester Belanger of Greenfield for their Pancake Express.

The “People’s Choice” Award went to Red Bull Snowmobile by Destiny and Winter Sullivan, both of Greenfield.

In the chili cook-off, Green Fields Market won “Best Chili Around.”

In the cookie bake-off, Joy Whitbeck won “Best Decorated,” Anira Dahlstrom-Hakki won “Most Original,” and Clarita Shaffer won “Best Overall.”

Sam Whitney of Deerfield won the Lego contest for kindergarten through grade 2, and there was a tie for grades 3 through 4: Manny Ferrer of Greenfield and Wyatt Clark of Montague.

Jeff White of Montague won the cribbage tournament and Jess Rigollaud of Greenfield was the runner-up.

In the Sleigh Bell Run, Richard Tuttle won in the male division and Wendy Mahoney won in the female division.
