Deerfield PD looks into daytime burglaries
DEERFIELD — Police are investigating a string of daytime residential burglaries in Old Deerfield.
Over a three-week period, Deerfield police have received reports of four such burglaries, all occurring in the areas of Old Deerfield village and the Route 5 and 10 corridor, according to officer Harry Ruddock III.
Ruddock said none of the burglaries involved forced entry. All the houses were left unlocked.
“We urge everyone to make sure they secure their homes,” and keep an eye out for suspicious vehicles or people at the homes of neighbors, said Ruddock.
Ruddock said jewelry and other valuables have been taken from the homes, but he declined to get into specifics.
Ruddock said the crimes remain under investigation.
“We’ve reached out to other departments, to see if there’s been anything similar, but I’m not going to speak for the other towns,” said Ruddock.
Though thieves could end up with a bounty of stolen gifts during the Christmas shopping season, Ruddock said these things happen at any time of year, with no noticeable spike in town around the holidays.
