Letter: Enjoyed our turkey

There will be no guilt trips at our Thanksgiving table. And after a satisfying Turkey Dinner we will all enjoy watching the Patriots football game. No vegetarian kids (6) to placate, no need for Poultry Hotlines or therapy sessions for bouts of environmental guilt. No need for sleeping pills to ward off midnight ponderings of our turkey’s fate. Our turkey lived quite well, free ranged all summer, picking grass and various living morsels in addition to his daily handful of grain. We chose to raise our own this year, so we know how he lived well and died well, now to adorn our table with local vegetables, homemade apple sauce, etc. If “Butterball” is not your thing then how about a local free range turkey, maybe from Diemand Farms. There are other fine producers of local meats to choose from. So while you ponder the carbon footprint of the soybeans grown on Midwestern farms and the fuel consumption to truck them to the East for processing that “Tofurky,” our family will sit down and give thanks for locally grown turkey.
