Three All-State Hawks

The accolades keep coming in for the Frontier Regional School girls’ volleyball team.

Senior captains Cassisdy Stankowski, Julia Wan and Ali Durant were all selected to the Massachusetts Girls’ Volleyball Coaches Association Division III All-State Team.

Stankowski, who will be playing volleyball at Division I Central Connecticut State University in New Britain next fall, was named to the All-State team for the fourth consecutive season.

The 5-foot-9 outside hitter has recorded 130 kills (3.0 kills per set), a serving percentage of 91.5, and 90 digs in just over half a season for the two-time defending MIAA Division III state champions while resting a nagging leg injury for a good portion of the regular season.

“She’s shaking off the rust,” said Frontier head coach Sean MacDonald. “She’s the only one who expects to play perfectly. She usually plays well, and that’s good enough for me. She’s a great passer, a great defender, and she can do a lot of things to help the team besides getting kills. She’s ready to go now, and its good to have her available and playing well.”

Wan, a 5-foot-11 middle hitter, has been one of the area’s most dominant servers at 94.1 percent, with 71 aces and a percentage of 30.1. She’s also a force at the net with a team-high 26 blocks, 81 kills (1.5 per set) and a .451 hitting percentage.

“She’s made so much progress and grown as a player,” said MacDonald. “Her hitting numbers aren’t as high but we’re keeping her in the back row to start because her serving has been so good. A lot of colleges are interested in her.”

Durant, the Hawks’ 4-11 3/4 libero, has been the defensive stalwart all season. She’s recorded team highs in digs (99) and serve receptions (215) with just eight and 11 errors, respectively. She also has a serving percentage of 93.4 with 20 aces.

“She’s really made a lot of improvements,” said MacDonald. “A lot of people have been watching us but she’s playing a lot better this year, and her stats are showing that. Her leadership has been fantastic. She is a really solid contributor who’s critical to the success in our system.”

Frontier (19-1) hosts Lenox Memorial High School tonight at 6:30 in the semifinals of the Western Mass. Tournament at Goodnow Gymnasium.
