Letter: Successful EDS drill
For the seventh year, a Frontier Region Emergency Dispensing Site (EDS) drill was held on Oct. 21 at the Yankee Candle corporate office area. An EDS is utilized when vaccine or medication needs to be dispensed to a large number of people in a short amount of time in a health emergency.
Approximately 40 volunteers, both in medical and non-medical roles, worked together to practice the drive-through set up of dispensing flu vaccine to the public. It is because of these dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers that we have several types of EDS plans that have been successfully developed and tested. Included among the volunteers are members of the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) of Franklin County.
The EDS additionally incorporates the merging of the boards of health, police, EMTs, firemen, and highway and office personnel from the towns of Deerfield , Sunderland, Whately, and Conway to coordinate efforts to best protect its citizens in a health emergency. Many thanks to Yankee Candle for the use of their facility. All should be proud who have volunteered in this wonderful community event.
